Cave (Águila) - Castles - Mountain villages

Gredos Mountain Park

Recommend Program “4 Days Arenas Tour”:

Though: “to really enjoy Arenas; visit its natural highlights, getting in touch with the people and exploring their culture makes for weeks off pleasure and challenges”….

Day 1

A great attraction to start your diverse tour is the impressive Eagel Cave (Cuevas de Águila) and afterwards enjoy one of the popular dishes in the site restaurant.
In the afternoon you can make a little village tour passing by the castle of Mombeltrán, Cuevas del Valle with its charming “Camino del Rey”, all the way up to the look out point of Puerto del Pico for a short walk on its Roman Road. Do not forget your camera because the views are spectacular and with a little bit of luck you will see mountain goats.

Day 2

Arenas de San Pedro, you will have to take some time to wonder through the old town with its Jewish, Arab and Christian quarters. Highlight will be a visit to the castle (Castillo del condestable Dávalos), from its balconies you have splendid view on Arenas and the Gredos Mountains. Lunch you can have in one of the local restaurants where you should try one of the famous Avila meat dishes.
In the afternoon there is no need to leave Arenas because there is more to see: the church (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción), Palace of Luis de Borbon, or making the beautiful 30 minutes walk to the monastery of San Pedro del Alcántara.

Day 3

For the third day we suggest a mountain walk, choosing one of the famous routes of the Tietar Valley and Gredos Mountains (in our hostel we have maps available and we can give advice on more technical routes like climbing the Almanzor (2.592 m), rock climbing or biking tracks). There are plenty of routes for all levels and duration. Do not forget to bring your camera because all walks will give you a great view on the local natural scene.
SUMMER RECOMMENDATION: on a hot day go for a swim in one of the Natural Pools!!!!

Day 4

Today we start with a little drive passing attractive mountain villages like Hornillo, Guisando and Poyales del Hoyo were you can make a quick stop to see the waterfall. We continue to Candaleda and from there we visit the Celtic site of El Raso.

See you soon!!!
